Recently, Drake made headlines for rescheduling dates of his Itโs All A Blur Tour for the third time. So letโs dive into the difference between a postponed event vs a rescheduled one vs a canceled one.
Postponed
According to Ticketmaster, if your concert has been postponed that means the Event Organizer is still working to determine whether the event will be rescheduled or canceled. Your tickets are still valid. Refund and/or credit policies are on an event-by-event basis, determined by the event organizers โ artists, teams, venue, promoters.
Rescheduled
Concerts are rescheduled for a variety of reasons โ weather, illness, or scheduling conflicts. In most cases, tickets for the original concert will be valid for the rescheduled date.
Due to scheduling conflicts, sometimes shows can be rescheduled to a date that is weeks or months away. Drakeโs Itโs All A Blur Tour show in New Orleans was originally scheduled to take place in June 2023. After three postponements, the new date is taking place in March 2024. Another example is the final US tour dates of Harry Stylesโ Love On Tour. They were originally scheduled for November 2022 but due to him coming down with the flu, three of his 15 residency dates were rescheduled to January 2023.
Canโt attend the new rescheduled date? Refund and/or credit policies are on an event-by-event basis, determined by the event organizers. Contact the venue or promoter to confirm the refund policy. There is typically a time limitation (ex. 14 days) to decide whether you want a refund or not for a rescheduled show. If you canโt attend and refunds are not available, resell them.
Canceled
Like reschedules, cancelations happen for various reasons. In 2022, Shawn Mendes canceled his Wonder: The World Tour just weeks into being on the road due to his mental health. The same year, Justin Bieber canceled the remainder of his Justice World Tour due to health issues where he suffered from facial paralysis after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.
If a concert is canceled, fans will typically be refunded for their tickets within 30 business days of the cancellation announcement. If you purchased tickets in person at a venueโs box office, you need to take the tickets directly to the box office to receive your refund.
When your refund is processed, the money is returned to the credit card you made the initial purchase. Most ticket marketplaces cannot issue a refund to an alternate card.
- According to Ticketmaster, if your debit and/or credit card number has changed but is for the same bank account, the refund will be processed to that account.
- If your bank account is closed, you will need to reach out to the bank or card company directly to receive your refund.
- If you use a gift card, the amount will be returned to your gift card.
