August will mark two years since Coco Jones performed for a sold-out crowd at the House of Blues: New Orleans during her What I Didn’t Tell You Tour. Since then, the 27-year-old has won a Grammy for Best R&B performance, was an advisor on Season 27 of NBC’s The Voice, and released her debut album — ‘Why Not More?’! Now she’s touring in support of her debut album, and here’s what you missed at her sold-out stop in New Orleans.
The night kicked off with a DJ set by @thezookeepper — from early 2000s Usher to chart-topping collabs by SZA & Kendrick Lamar to ballads by Fantasia, he kept the vibes and energy going for over an hour before Lady London took the stage. The last time I saw the 30-year-old Bronx rapper was at the Coca-Cola Main Booth during the 2024 Essence Festival of Culture at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Throughout her 20-minute set, she performed “Yea Yea” and her viral 2023 hit, “Pop Ya Shit” which had the crowd going crazy!
Just before 9:30 pm, Coco Jones took the stage. If I’ve learned anything about the Tennessee native, it’s that her mic is always on. For over an hour, she gave the sold-out crowd her all as she sang with two dancers by her side. From the Billboard Chart hits like “ICU” to an unreleased track titled “Love So Big,” Coco covered all the grounds. She also made sure to let out a “NOLA BABY!” with her best impression of a New Orleans accent, which garnered chuckles throughout the venue.
Although her attempt at a NOLA accent wasn’t the best, here are the top three moments from her set were: hearing how loud the crowd sang along during her performance of “Here We Go (Uh Oh),” when she brought a fan on stage during “Moment of Your Life,” and when she just took a moment to thank everyone for supporting her. Whether you discovered her as Roxy in ‘Let It Shine’ or if you just became a fan after “ICU” entered the Billboard charts and went platinum, she expressed gratitude for the streams, ticket buying, and love!
Two years later and two sold-out shows later, I don’t know what else to say besides this: if Coco Jones is in your city, Get! A! Ticket!
