[Review] The Millennium Tour

The Millennium Tour is back! The nostalgic filled tour includes performances by Bow Wow, Rick Ross, Trey Songz and more. Here’s what happened during the New Orleans stop.

On Saturday night, thousands packed inside the Smoothie King Center for the Millennium Tour, produced by The Black Promoters Collective. In recent weeks, viral videos have been circulating on TikTok and X where fans have criticized the tour and told people to โ€˜save their money.โ€™ This is the third Millennium Tour Iโ€™ve attended, but my first time reviewing, so Iโ€™ll be honest. If you go to The Millennium Tour with low expectations, youโ€™ll have the time of your life. Itโ€™s essentially a nostalgic one-stage music festival. During the four hours, fans see over twelve artists live with little to no breaks in between. You get your moneyโ€™s worth!

Having attended The Millennium Tour in 2021 and 2022, itโ€™s fun seeing the change over the years โ€” in previous years, I had the opportunity to see Soulja Boy, Mario, Keri Hilson, Chingy, and Crime Mob. This yearโ€™s lineup includes Nivea, Ying Yang Twins, Boosie Badazz, RSVP (which consists of Ray-J, Sammie, Bobby V, and Pleasure P), Rick Ross, Plies, Omarion, Bow Wow, and Trey Songz. Like I said, you get your moneyโ€™s worth.

Letโ€™s dive into the highs and lows of the 2025 Millennium Tour, produced by The Black Promoters Collective. The night started promptly at 8 p.m. The best sets were undoubtedly Lloyd, Trey Songz, and Bow Wow.

Lloyd

Unfortunately, Lloyd is not on the tour full-time. I shared videos from his set on TikTok, and commenters expressed how they wish he were at their tour stops. There are also a lot of requests for the R&B singer to do a solo tour. Itโ€™s safe to say the 15 minutes they gave him were not enough โ€” the people want more! But a 15-minute Lloyd set definitely more than made up for not having Boosie BadAzz perform at our show. Lloyd performed hits including his verse in โ€œBed Rock,โ€ his 2007 hit โ€œGet It Shawty,โ€ and of course, the belt-antheming โ€œLay It Down.โ€

Bow Wow

Bow Wow has previously closed out The Millennium Tour, but he was second to last with a 30-minute set on Saturday. Despite him looking like he just rolled out of bed (the words of TikTok commenters, not mine), he still gave 110%. His high energy and engaging performance proved why heโ€™s still so successful all these years later. He thanked his loyal fanbase for sticking with him through his music career, acting ventures, 106 & Park days, and more. โ€œThis sh*tโ€™s for life,โ€ the rapper shared! My only two negative notes from his set are (1) it was an interesting choice to include his R. Kelly collab, โ€œIโ€™m a Flirt.โ€ Bow Wow has an extensive enough discography where he could leave it out or replace it with another track, and (2) the opportunity to bring Omarion out for โ€œLet Me Hold Youโ€ is right there. I wonder why they donโ€™t join forces to perform that one together.

Trey Songz

Itโ€™s easy to forget how many hit songs Trey Songz has under his belt, but as he took the stage for 40 minutes, it was apparent why he was closing out the show! From โ€œSay Aahโ€ to โ€œCanโ€™t Be Friendsโ€ to โ€œHeart Attack,โ€ three-time Grammy nominee had the crowd singing along throughout his entire set! The highlight was his performance of โ€œSlow Motion.โ€ After belting the lyrics to his 2015 hit, he started rapping Juvenileโ€™s โ€œSlow Motionโ€ before surprising the crowd with Juvie himself (and Turk!) A real treat considering Juvenile was headed to his all black affair birthday bash!

Next, letโ€™s talk about the remaining sets! Although these three sets are ranked lower, they were still enjoyable.

Nivea

The R&B singer and Grammy nominee was first to take the stage at 8 oโ€™clock on the dot. Props to her for holding it down for the ladies, seeing as sheโ€™s the only woman performing on this tour (besides the dancers), but it felt like a karaoke session. Her 10-minute set included hits like โ€œComplicated,โ€ โ€œLaundromat,โ€ and โ€œDonโ€™t Mess with My Man.โ€

Ying Yang Twins

Third time seeing them live and they leave you entertained every single time. The duo is chaotic, but itโ€™s fun โ€“ like seeing your crazy uncle cutting up at the family function. Their set included hits like โ€œWait (The Whisper Song)โ€ and โ€œSalt Shaker.โ€ Of course, they had to play โ€œHalftime (Stand Up)โ€ โ€“ a song that was the soundtrack for the City of New Orleans as the Saints defeated the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

RSVP

RSVP, an R&B supergroup consisting of Ray J, Sammie, Bobby Valentino, and Pleasure P, somehow squeezed all their hits in a 25-minute time slot. After ripping off his black mask during a performance of โ€œOne Wish,โ€ Ray J informed the crowd that he was โ€œf*cked up right nowโ€ and โ€œfeeling good right now.โ€ Their set included Bobby Valentinoโ€™s โ€œSlow Down,โ€™ Pleasure Pโ€™s โ€œDid You Wrong,โ€ and Sammieโ€™s โ€œI Like It.โ€ Another chaotic but fun set as Ray J walked through the crowd to perform โ€œOne Wish,โ€ hands dove to catch a rose from Bobby V, and fans danced with Pleasure P on stage.

Rick Ross

Rick Ross was a surprising addition to The Millennium Tour. Although these are his peers, considering his debut single, โ€œHustlinโ€™โ€ was on the charts in the same year as Lloydโ€™s โ€œYou,โ€ I place him in a different category. The Bossโ€™ set was fun with hits like โ€œAston Martin Music,โ€ โ€œJohn,โ€ and โ€œBMFโ€ but it wasnโ€™t show-stopping. He brought out upcoming rapper and Maybach Music Group signee, Neno Breeze, to perform with him.

Plies

Plies performing at The Millennium Tour in New Orleans

I donโ€™t know if anyone had as much energy (or fun) as Plies. As he performed fan favorites like โ€œShawty,โ€ โ€œBust It Baby,โ€ and โ€œRock,โ€ he didnโ€™t miss a beat or lose any breath. He made the most of his 20-minute by including performances of verses of popular tracks he was featured on.

Omarion

Omarion performing at The Millennium Tour in New Orleans

Omarion was recently captured going off on a crowd because they were seated during his set. After watching his 30-minute set, I could see why fans were maybe seated. Although he had the most production, including six dancers, there was a short break where his brother, Oโ€™Ryan played tracks like Tevin Campbellโ€™s โ€œCan We Talk.โ€ After standing for two hours, fans took the opportunity to sit. When Omarion returned to the stage, he performed newer tracks unfamiliar to the crowd. Versus during the B2K throwbacks and โ€œPost To Beโ€ fans on their feet.
