New Orleans’ own, Lucky Daye, brought his Algorithm Tour to the Fillmore on Saturday night – a surprise guest, a serenade, a show-stopping opener, and more.

Fana Hues

I recently made a video on TikTok about how I’ve seen some of the biggest modern artists when they were openers for other tours like seeing Post Malone open for Justin Bieber in 2016 or Janelle Monae open for Katy Perry in 2011. Fana Hues is one of those artists. In the next few years, attendees can say they saw her when she was just an opener for Lucky Daye and now she’s headlining an arena tour.

The Baltimore singer-songwriter is a powerhouse. Her set included “Sweet Like” from her recent album, Moth; “Paper Tigers,” “Down,” and a cover of Lauryn Hill’s 1998 song, “Tell Him.” From upbeat tracks to soulful vocals, the 29-year-old R&B singer captivated the crowd as they waited for the main act. One of my favorite moments was seeing someone hitting Fana’s choreography from the crowd, only to find out it was her biggest cheerleader – her mom! And I do not doubt that after her 30-minute set, hundreds of attendees left cheerleaders of Fana Hues too!

If you’re a fan of artists like Snoh Alegra, Kehlani, Giveon, or Ambré, you should check out Fana Hues!

Lucky Daye

It’s been just over a month since Lucky Daye surprised the crowd at Night 3 of the Essence Festival of Culture at Caesar’s Superdome. He joined Victoria Monet during her set to perform their 2023 collab, “Smoke” live for the first time together. On August 17, Lucky Daye brought his Algorithm Tour to his hometown of New Orleans. Fans lined up down the block and around the corner to get inside the Fillmore to see the Grammy Award winner live.

This setlist included songs from his third album, Algorithm, including “Soft,” “Never Leanin’ U Lonely,” and “Pin.” Although this tour was focused on his latest album, Lucky Daye made sure to include fan favorites from his previous work including “Over,” “Roll Some Mo,” and “Used to Be.”

“It means the world to me for me to be able to come back home…” the 38-year-old shared with the crowd. He surprised the crowd by bringing fellow New Orleanian, Troy Andrews, or as most people know him, Trombone Shorty, out to join him on stage for “Misunderstood” and “Floods.”

It’s no secret that Lucky Daye is very playful and swoon-worthy so naturally one of the standout moments throughout the night was when Daye brought a fan on stage and serenaded her during a sensual performance of “That’s You.” As the night went on, the man of the hour lost items of clothing but even a shirtless Lucky Daye couldn’t distract you from his unmatched vocals and the beautiful visuals depicted behind him.

At the end of the night, Lucky Daye successfully fooled the crowd. Hundreds of fans ran back inside when they realized “Diamonds in the Teal” was not his closing number. Date returned to the stage for an encore with a high-energy performance of his song, “HERicane” before thanking everyone for coming out to see him live.
