Saturday night at the Fillmore was a night of pure pop bliss as Madison Beer’s Spinnin’ Tour made its way to New Orleans.
UPSAHL
It’s no surprise Madison Beer recruited UPSAHL to open up for the Spinnin’ Tour seeing as UPSAHL assisted with writing Beer’s hit song “BOYSHIT.” The alt-pop singer-songwriter from Arizona made her mark in New Orleans on Saturday night!
To put it simply, UPSAHL has star power. It didn’t take long for the 25-year-old to captivate the crowd with her seamless vocals, wicked guitar playing, and natural aura. They jumped around, screamed choruses, and ‘channeled their inner lunatic’ with her.
Her 30-minute set included fan favorites like her 2019 single, “Drugs” which blew up on TikTok and has over 100 million streams! But she also performed an unreleased song titled “Summer So Hot.” ”It’s about being hot, sweaty, and wet” UPSAHL shared with the crowd — something New Orleanians can 100% relate to! I’ll be patiently waiting for the official release of that track!
Throughout the set, I tried figuring out who UPSAHL reminded me of. I couldn’t put my finger on it but I feel like If you’re a fan of artists like Emei, Billie Eilish, or Ashnikko, you should check out UPSAHL! Either way, UPSAHL is more than just a viral track on TikTok – she’s a force, and seeing her perform live solidified she’s born for this!
Madison Beer
I’ve been following Beer’s career since 2012 when Justin Bieber shared a link to her cover of Etta James’ “At Last” to his 25 million Twitter followers! The 25-year-old singer-songwriter has come a long way from her days of posting covers on YouTube and going live on Younow. In November 2021, Madison Beer brought her Life Support Tour to New Orleans at the House of Blues – the first time I saw her live. Since then, she’s released a memoir titled The Half of It and dropped her second studio album, Silence Between Songs which received a 2024 Grammy nomination.
Compared to her Life Support Tour, there was less production. Beer’s Life Support Tour was more fairytale and storybook-like with a swing, branches, outfit changes, and two airy-like dancers. The Spinnin’ Tour is centered around visuals that depict nature, space, and home. But if you’re a fan of her Life Support album, her setlist included tracks like “Good In Goodbye,” “Follow the White Rabbit,” “Selfish,” and “Homesick.”
Although her production was simple, the energy and crowd interaction wasn’t. The crowd went crazy as she threw roses during her performance of “17.” And when she performed her latest single, “Make You Mine” followed by “BOYSHIT” followed by “Baby,” you would have thought the Fillmore was a nightclub (an all-ages one at that.)
Beer shared with the crowd that New Orleans left a lasting impression on her, “The people in the front row told me people don’t come here for tours. I think I’ve been here for all my tours and promise I will be back.” I’m sure The Big Easy left another lasting impression on her as the sound went out during her performance of “Stained Glass.” “New Orleans is too hot, that’s what it is,” Beer joked with the crowd. “That was crazy. That happened to me once in my life before and I’m not even kidding I thought I died. My eyes were closed as I was singing a note. Everything shut off and it was pitch black and I thought ‘oh this is death.’”
She ended the show with a confetti-filled performance of “King of Everything” as she sported a shimmering crown of her own! The Spinnin’ Tour showcased Madison Beer’s growth as an artist. She still has a ways to go but the stage is definitely where she belongs.
