Concertgoers arrived at the Joy Theater dressed in their best brown and animal print clothing ready for Miss Victoria Monét to take the stage! It’s been six years since the last time I saw Monét. In 2017, she opened for Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman Tour at the Smoothie King Center. Fast forward, she’s now headlining her own sold-out tour…and after experiencing the JAGUAR Tour, I can promise you this is just the beginning for her.
The Monét Mania
Victoria Monét is not new on the scene. The Grammy nominee has written for some of the biggest artists in the industry including Ariana Grande, BLACKPINK, Nas, and Chloe x Halle. But in the past three years, the 34-year-old has made a name for herself in the R&B lane with the release of her EP, JAGUAR in 2020 and her recent album, JAGUAR II.
Like the aesthetic of her tour and the aura of her album, the crowd was a sea of brown and jaguar print as far as the eye could see. And on the right side of the room stood a merch line that stretched all the way across the GA floor. And the merchandise line only shortened once Victoria took the stage!
Around 8 p.m. Ambré opened the show. The 27-year-old shared it’s her first stop on the JAGUAR tour – and it’s only right that it’s in her hometown of New Orleans! The Roc Nation signee performed a 30-minute set that featured tracks from her latest EP, who’s loving you? One of my favorite parts of Ambré’s set was the seamless transition from her track, “I’m Baby” to Janet Jackson’s 1993 hit, “Any Time, Any Place.” And it seemed to be the audience’s favorite too as they harmonized with her at the end of “I’m Baby.”
Following Ambré’s performance, crew members began decorating the stage with leafy plants and towering trees creating a jungle-like atmosphere. Soon after, the curtains lifted and the sold-out crowd was transported to the jungle as Victoria Monét sauntered onto the stage with a rhinestone-encrusted jaguar covering her face. After ripping off a hooded robe, Monét dressed in a shimmering two-piece brown outfit began her set with “Moment.”
And she doesn’t just look amazing, she sounds amazing live too! Monét gave it her all – choreography, vocals, glitz, glam, and authentic 70’s vibes. Her stage presence reminded me of artists like Beyoncé or Bruno Mars as she effortlessly hit every piece of choreography while singing for an hour. In fact, why is she not opening for the Renaissance World Tour or a Silk Sonic Tour? It’d be a match made in heaven!
One of my favorite parts of Monét’s set was the seamless transitions. She and her two dancers hit the viral choreography that took TikTok by storm to Trillville’s 2004 hit, “Some Cut” before transitioning to her track, “Dive.” Later in the set, she danced to Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam” which transitioned to a mix of Beyoncé’s “Baby Boy” and then Monét’s single “Party Girls” which features Buju Banton! And true to the authentic 70’s vibe, she and her two dancers hit soul-filled moves to “Stop! In The Name of Love” by Diana Ross & The Supremes before leading into “Stop (Askin’ Me 4Shyt).” It’s already become a part of the show that fans look forward to as Monét changes what she says during the outro every night. As expected, she finished her set with an energetic performance of one of the hottest songs this summer, “On My Mama.”
As I stated, the JAGUAR Tour is just the beginning for Victoria Monét. I won’t be surprised if she’s headlining a sold-out arena tour in the next year or two. With that being said, the current tour is running until late October in the United States. It’s sold out – but if you’re lucky, you can snag a resale ticket! Here are some deals and discounts so you can beat those scalpers and see Victoria Monét live for yourself!
